Samarkand in the Age of Tamerlane (Timur Lang)
by Dr. Renata HolodOld Samarkand- Afrasiyab was completely destroyed by the Mongol invasion of 1220. The centuries-old site stood abandoned. The new Timurid Samarkand arose in the surrounding gardens to become a model for early modern cities of western Asia.
