Lot 136. A RARE PAIR OF SILK LAMPAS TROUSERS, SOGDIANA, 7TH/8TH CENTURY Estimate: 200,000 - 300,000 GBP
Sothebys auction “Arts of the Islamic World” 3 October 2012 at 10:30 AM in London includes 288 lots.
This Islamic art auction features gold, silver, ceramic lustre, manuscripts, textiles and carpets produced across the Muslim world from the ninth to the nineteenth century.
The viewing exhibition in London is open for the public Friday 28 September 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Sunday 30 September 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday 01 October 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM and Tuesday 02 October 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
The carpet, rug and textile lots, totally 23 lots in this auction, include rare Sogdian textiles and exclusive Persian, Indian and Anatolian carpets.
Among the treassures are several Sogdian silk textiles and a pair of Central Asian silk lampas trousers, lot 136, from Sogdiana attesting to the international trading culture that flourished along the Silk Road in the 7th/8th century.
