Chinese Texiles from Palmyra

It looks as if Dorothy King is back with her weblog which has been refreshed and given a different look, quite elegant and pleasant to read.
This article is from 8 December 2012 and is about Early Chines Silk found in the West.

Dorothy King's PhDiva

I've blogged before about early Chinese Silk found in the West, but all I had were small black and white photos, so I was rather thrilled to find this colour photograph of a beautiful Chinese red silk with an embroidered lily found in the tomb complex by the Temple of Bel in Palmyra (source), and dating to the second or third centuries AD:

This fragment of a Coptic textile is third century and comes from the Tomb of Elahbel, also at Palmyra (source). It was made in Egypt, and shows how extensive trade was.

Both are (hopefully still) in the National Museum in Damascus, Syria.
