Photo exhibit displays vestiges of the Mongol Empire


A photo exhibition titled “Cultural Landmarks of the Mongol Empire” opened at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery on February 28, displaying photographs of key monuments established during the Great Mongol Empire at sites in Afghanistan, China, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The exhibition was jointly organized by the Office of the President, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the “Diaspora Mongols” non-governmental organization, and the Council of Mongolian Architects, in the frame of the National Program for Mongol Studies, under the auspices of the President of Mongolia.
Adviser to the President, R.Bold, gave the inaugural speech at the opening ceremony, explaining the importance of the exhibition in raising awareness of Mongolia’s astounding history and heritage.
Visitors to the exhibition can see photographs of monuments such as the tomb of Zuchi Khaan in Kazakhstan; the remains of the Astrology Center in Iran, which was established by Khulegu Khaan; the Astrology Center in China which was established by Khubilai Khaan, founder of the Yuan Dynasty; the Astrology Center in Uzbekistan, which was established by Ulugbekh; the remains of the Summer Palace in Iran, which was established by Argu Khaan; the Mausoleum of Ulziit Khaan in Iran; and the tomb of Tumur Khaan in Uzbekistan. Visitors to the exhibition can also see coins designed by the Mongol Khaans and photographs of ‘Mongol Era’ handicrafts from Central Asia.
The exhibition displays the enormity and range of the Mongol Empire and presents Mongolia’s proud history and heritage. Anyone interested in viewing the remarkable vestiges of the Great Mongol Empire, should visit the exhibition.
The exhibition will continue until March 18.
